There are three options for transferring data between home/iPad and the office. These are:
- Citrix
- File sharing through Dropbox or Sugar Sync
- Email.
Citrix
Citrix desktop can be fine for working from a desktop or laptop, but does not work well on the iPhone or iPad. I will need to experiment with the word module that Brennan have set up within Citrix for these devices.
File sharing
This option works well for outside of the office as it allows easy access between the laptop, home pc and the iphone and iPad.
The difficulties are:
I don’t want work to be able to access the general file as most of these documents are not work related and consequently I need to either develop the document in the Work folder or remember to transfer it across. The latter is preferable because it means that I don’t have to keep redirecting the text editor to a different folder.
I still have to log on to Citrix to download the document and then email the document to Sue.
Alternatives might be to either give Sue access to the Dropbox work account, link a folder with Sue or email Sue a link to the document.
Email
Email is fine but often there have been issues with the email not arriving.
Other considerations
It would be helpful to have template documents of the electronic letter head to be able to work outside of the work environment.
CloudOn could be useful for editing the work document on the iPad.
